What to Expect During a Custom Kitchen Renovation in Toronto

The six-phase timeline from first consultation to final walkthrough — and what happens in each one.

What to Expect During a Custom Kitchen Renovation in Toronto

A custom kitchen renovation is a significant project, and the process can feel opaque if you have not been through it before. Here is how it works at Apico — six phases, from the first conversation to the day you cook your first meal in the finished room.

Phase 1: The initial conversation

Every project starts with a conversation. You tell us about your space, your goals, and your budget range. We ask questions about how you cook, how you entertain, what storage frustrates you, and what matters most to you in the finished kitchen. This conversation is free, takes about 30 minutes, and comes with no obligation.

Phase 2: Ballpark pricing

Based on our conversation, we provide a general pricing estimate. This is not a final quote — it is a realistic range so you can decide whether to move forward before anyone invests significant time in detailed design. We believe in transparency from the start, not surprises at the end.

Phase 3: In-home consultation

Once we are aligned on scope and budget, we visit your home. We take precise measurements, assess the existing conditions (plumbing locations, electrical, structural considerations), and bring our mobile showroom. Door styles, wood species, hardware options, paint colours, stone samples — all in your own lighting, in your own space.

Phase 4: Detailed quote

With your material selections finalised, we compile an itemised quote that reflects exactly what you have chosen. Every line item is clearly described. No hidden fees, no allowances that balloon later. If the total needs adjusting, we work with you to find the right balance without compromising the design.

Phase 5: Design and manufacturing

Once the quote is approved, we finalise the design with detailed 3D renderings. You see every cabinet, every drawer, every hardware placement before a single board is cut. Manufacturing takes place in our Toronto factory over four to eight weeks — CNC machining, finishing, assembly, and quality inspection all under one roof.

Phase 6: Delivery, installation, and walkthrough

Our installation crew handles every project — never outsourced. A typical kitchen installation takes three to four days. We coordinate with your plumber, electrician, and other trades. Once installation is complete, we do a final walkthrough: every alignment, every drawer, every finish. Your warranties take effect at this point — lifetime on hardware, five years on finishes.

Total timeline

From first conversation to cooking in your new kitchen: four to six months, depending on the complexity of the project and the number of material selections involved. The design phase is the most variable — some clients make decisions quickly, others take time to explore options. We work at your pace.
